Manoeuvring

Outline

Every operator has to deal with the day to day occurrences of minor Road Traffic Incidents where drivers misjudge the position of the vehicle, and end up 'paint swapping' with other vehicles, bits of road furniture, building, canopies etc.

Many of the these incidents are totally avoidable with appropiate training for drivers who, in many cases, were only ever taught to perform the 3a Off-road Reversing Exercise as part of their licence acquisition process.

Thankfully the vast majority of these incidents involve just paint and minor damage. But as always there is a cost associated with such instances, they these issues have consequences beyond the detrimental effect on an operator's vehicle insurance policy.

Our HGV Manoeuvre practical onsite course with drivers discusses:

  • common mistakes that are made during manoeuvring,

  • look at the design, configuration and idiocyncrancies of the vehicles they drive,

  • working with Banksmen on-site and the common signalling system,

  • the technology that is onboard that might be helping or hindering the movement of these vehicles, and

  • the ramifications for both the driver and the operator when dealing with these minor bumps and dents.
